I will be showing you how to make a tulle pom pom for your Valentine’s Day DIY Decor!
What you will need:
- 2 rolls of tulle x 25 yards each (how many rolls/colors depending on how thick you want it to be)
- Ribbon or string
- Cardboard circle cut outs
Step 1 is to find a circle that is about as big as you want your pom pom to be. I used the top of a bowl and traced it on a box, twice. I then cut out the 2 circles, and then cut a hole as wide as the tulle roll in the middle of each circle.
Step 2 is to place the two pieces of cardboard together and put the string or ribbon in between them. Be sure the string is long so that it hangs way out of the cardboard. The string will be used to tie the pom pom together later.
Step 3 is to start wrapping the tulle around both circles. I used two different colors: so I did two rounds of tulle per color around the entire circle until there was no tulle left.
Step 4 is to find the middle of the cardboard pieces and cut inbetween them. You will end up with two sides of tulle.
Step 5 is to tie the string or ribbon TIGHT around the tulle so it holds.
Step 6: Slide the tulle through the cardboard and fluff to your desired fullness.
Step 7: I had to trim some longer ends off but this step is optional
This tutorial can be changed to match any size and any combination of colors. You could even make a lot of smaller ones and tie the strings together to make tulle pom pom garland (future tutorial)
Now you have a tulle pom pom that can hang from the ceiling, or sit on top of a candelabra or maybe even a tree 😉
